Jane Booth-RobertsonDecember, 2008What brought you to the realization that you are a healer?
I had always thought of myself as a teacher until 1997 when I learned Reiki and Sound therapy. It was my clients who made me realize that these modalities where making them feel more relaxed and feeling relief from pain. I do not call myself a healer as I feel I am more an instrument that assists the client to heal themselves as their vibrations rise and chakras clear as they respond to Reiki and sound vibrations.
What obstacles have you found in considering yourself a success in this field?
I try not to judge or rate myself as I believe each experience moves me forward. Obstacles provide an opportunity to evaluate and redefine myself or my goals. As for a business obstacle, it is the lack of knowledge about holistic modalities by the general public. Many people have not heard of Reiki or Sound Energy Dynamics and are not open to an alternative way of healing. Once a client has experienced my Reiki/Natural Sound sessions, they relax and want more.
What schooling or training have you completed?
I am a graduate of Hamilton Teachers’ College. I hold a BA from the University of Waterloo, Social Development Studies with a General Social Work Certificate. I hold a Master of Divinity and am an Ordained Minister of Spiritual Peacemaking by the Beloved Community,USA, an Ordained Lay Minister of All Seasons Church, Canada. I am a USUI Certified Reiki Master/Practitioner and a Certified Sound Energy Dynamics Practitioner trained by sound therapist Christoper Tims, USA.
Do you find group gathering to be helpful in supporting you on your journey?
I love working with groups and participating in groups as I learn so much from others and it is wonderful to share meditations, prayers and chants. It is very powerful to be in a group of 90 Spiritual Peacemakers as I was on spiritual retreats. The love and caring is felt by all and it is a wondrous feeling.
Does networking with others assist you in achieving your goals?
As soon as we opened The Golden Light Centre for Well-Being Inc. in Kitchener in 2001 we began networking with holistic practitioners and it was a great experience. Now, my business is on line, I still network with them through my web site and e-mail. Many have been so supportive and sharing ideas, articles and we have become good friends. On line groups are an excellent way to network and spread your message around the world. My web site is visited by people from many countries.
Is there advice you would offer to someone starting on this path?
I think my advice would be to follow your heart and passion. Always be true to yourself and live your truth. Allow yourself to be open and led to new people, places and events. Change is necessary to grow and often necessary to follow a peaceful path. Most of all always be light-hearted, laugh and flow with ease.
What type of advertising has worked best for you? What has been your best resource for building a client base?
Flyers in my store worked well and I see a lot of flyers around town in Meaford for non profit groups. My website serves as a base, a foundation for my articles, testimonials, my blog and my book, In Silence, Discovering Self through Meditation. E-mail is what I use most to advertise. I also join internet groups but many do not want advertising but it is a place to let people know about you. Word of mouth has worked best over the years. Referrals are great.
Where do you see yourself in a year? 5 years? Do you have any particular goals that you would like to achieve in the near future?
I see myself living with my husband, Ian whom I married in September. (My author name is Jane Booth but my married name is Robertson.) I see myself as a Minister of Spiritual Peacemaking and writer so I would like to continue this path and allow the universe to assist me to serve. My goals are to live peacefully with my family and friends and to be healthy. I am a breast cancer survivor and would like to support other women or men who healing from cancer. I feel a community of spiritual peace makers developing here. I hope to be part of its development. I live very much in the moment and allow each moment to expand..
